The Victoria International College Vision
Our vision is to be an excellent and comprehensive education institution in Sri Lanka, giving our children the best possible preparation for a happy and successful adulthood in a rapidly changing world. In doing so, we endeavour to nurture the children within the framework of traditional values and culture.
We seek to fulfil this vision by:
Our Perspective on Your Child
Our perspective on children is that we want them to be happy, to have a high self-esteem and to develop self confidence in themselves and their abilities, so that they can learn to handle new situations and accept the challenges that life in the outside world has to offer even when they might seem unfair.
We are keen to see our children enjoy college and develop enthusiasm, perseverance and a questioning approach to life that will prepare them for the future stages in their education.
The Victoria Method
We are different in terms of our education methodology. Central to our philosophy of teaching is that all children are individuals with differing needs and strengths. They learn at different rates and learning does not take place in a smooth progression but in sudden spurts that are usually followed by a level period of consolidation.
Our teachers are trained to exploit these differences and to extend and support all children and help them to achieve full potential. We have high but realistic expectations. We want children to give their best and appreciate what they can do well and what they could make better. We work to give children a thorough grounding in basic skills: to develop a lively interest and curiosity about the world in which they live, to experience a wide curriculum that includes creative arts and physical activities, and to develop a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their life.
There are times when we know that every child will benefit from a whole class lesson and there are times when we group the children according to their ability. Alternatively, they may benefit from mixed ability groups or from individual work.
All of the teachers at TVIC use a mixture of these four methods, even using two or three of them in one lesson according to the needs of the children and the work involved. Our criterion for selecting a teaching style is that all children should benefit from it, not just a few. Such a system of teaching demands very careful planning, and the teachers are constantly monitoring your child’s progress and development so that they know when to introduce the next piece of work that will challenge your child and give them the opportunity for success.
We adopt the Victoria Method as our professional duty and vocation to offer your child the best education that he or she needs. We take this duty seriously and are constantly extending our own expertise and knowledge of education.
Skills and Subjects We Offer
As an integral part of our curriculum, we offer two types of skills: key skills and essential thinking skills.
Key skills include the skills of communication, application of numbers, information technology, working with others, problem solving and improving one's own performance.
We also give major focus to developing the following essential thinking skills so that the children develop as independent learners and thoughtful individuals.
